Could you tell me a little about your background?
I am a teacher, teacher trainer and independent materials writer with 20 years of experience in English Language Teaching. I specialize in teaching English to infant and primary learners of English.
I have been a regular speaker at regional and national ELT conferences in Spain for many years and I am co-author of the Cambridge Global English series grade 4-6 and other publications.
When did you become interested in English as a Second Language?
Many years ago having graduated from University with a Modern Language degree, I decided to study for a TEFL qualification in order to be able to work as I travelled around the world. The world trip was cut short in Spain as I perfected my dominion of the Spanish language. At the same time I became more and more immersed in the world of teaching English as a foreign language and in particular with teaching children. To this day, I still teach English to children and I am still perfecting my Spanish!
What's your favourite book and why?
I have many favourite books, but one I'd like to mention today and in honour of the life of one of the greatest 20th century writers is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Marquez who has recently passed away. A masterpiece of storytelling, this story spans over the seven generations of the Buendía family in the small settlement of Macondo. Magic, mystery, wars and disasters are blended with the political reality of its time. It had me gripped from the beginning to the end.
Do you have any tips for teaching Cambridge Global English?
My tip, apart from to suggest you carefully read through the teachers' notes in order to familiarize yourself with all Global English has to offer - would be to enjoy teaching with Cambridge Global English as much as I did writing it!
How does Cambridge Global English help learners?
In a nutshell, Cambridge Global English teaches children to learn how to learn. It provides them with essential life and academic skills and is designed to develop their competencies in all areas of the English curriculum. Its international perspective brings the rest of the world to their doorstep offering a genuine and fascinating insight into the lives of people around the world.
